Barcelona Zoo

We're trying different restaurants in Barcelona.

We ate outside last night.

Riley had a goat leg and cheesecake.

In the morning we went to the zoo.

This pigeon weighs up to two kilos.

The zoo is full of peacocks.

Hunter S. Thompson said that peacocks can't fly above 7,000 feet.

This is a rowdy place. We have fish and chips and things.

The Turistica Bus Day

Only one more Barcelona day before we board the Norwegian Epic for a two week cruise.

We like the food here a lot, especially the tapas (little plates).

I had a couple of pickpockets make a run at me. "Hey man...where you from?...etc"...I foiled them by keeping my stash in the front pocket of my jeans...ended up pushing one and yelling "GET THE #$%* AWAY FROM ME YOU $%^*@#s".

Setting on the Gaudi bench.

In front of the Gaudi building.

Strange shapes...

The old bull ring..no longer used.

Montserrat

We took a local train an hour out of Barcelona to Montserrat. I stole the first picture from wiki but the rest are from our Iphone, which is now the only device we have that can talk to my laptop.

Montserrat means "mount saw" because the multiple peaks appear saw toothed from one angle.

The gondola holds 35 and rises about 1500 feet. The trip takes 5 minutes.

The monastery atop the mountain has hiking trails, a lovely church and a hotel.

We ate in the cafeteria and hiked further up the mountain.

A look back at the buildings from the trail.

Riley amused us with back flips and other gymnastic tricks while we waited for the return train. The trip involved mastering the subway system and the local train depot.

A church organ in the monastery..

We hiked up to this cross on a promontory then returned to the gondola, waited for the local train and transferred to the L3 subway line..

Tonight for dinner we will eat again at the Momo. They offer a menu of the "dia" which includes 5 tapas, a main course (we like the chicken paella) and a desert.

Barcelona 7...Getafe zip

Barcelona dominated Getafe, which didn't seem able to retain possession of the ball.

Barrett patiently explained the game and the strange behaviors of the fans.

In the morning, we took the cable car to the castle/fort atop the hill overlooking Barcelona.

We probably walked 10 miles today.

I think I left my camera in the pizza place yesterday.

We'll take the hop on/hop off bus today and the train to Montserrat on Monday.

We found our favourite tapas restaurant on Blai 10 after a long search.

Back to Barcelona

We discovered in New York that American expected us to take a taxi from Laguardia to JFK.

They offered us a change to JFK for $5,600 so I decided to take the $33 taxi ride instead.

We're in the Gotic area near the beach and La Ramblas. We've been wandering the back allies of the old Gotic streets, looking at cathedrals and the aquarium.

We all slept a long time the first night and got moving about 11 AM.

We spent most of the day exploring the Sagrada Familia.

The Barcelona soccer game is tomorrow.

I can't access the pictures I took because Windows 10 can't see my SD card. Gateway doesn't have a new driver yet.

So these pictures are from Mrs. Phred's Iphone.

Life's little challenges.

Gaudi and Tesla...the line between genius and insanity frequently is blurry.

Who else would have thought to use twisted hyperbolas in construction to maximize sunlight inside a building?

You can see the changes happening quickly now....the construction started in 1888. It won't be done in my lifetime.
