Seward, Alaska

So long..and thanks for all the fish

After leaving Homer, we hit Ninilchik again for one last halibut charter.

We collect all our vacuum packed frozen halibut and hit a fed-ex shipper in Soldatna. We send most of the fish to our grandchildren.

Seward is a big cruise ship destination where most of the Vancouver/Alaska cruises terminate or begin.

It's a colorful place in the summer. I buy myself a Seward Brewery t-shirt with a puffin on the front.

Halibut Royale and Asparagus for Mrs. Phred....

A tufted puffin at the Seward Aquarium...

The name on the sign was something like "common mauvers"? Penguin cousins?

Something pretty...

Lots of art at the aquarium...

We have a 'mystery shot' at Tony's Bar....

The reindeer sausage tastes suspiciously like pig...

Old Russian Orthodox church in Ninilchik....

We spend three days on the beach in Seward before moving on to Whittier..

The Iditarod trail ran by dogsled about 1400 miles up to Nome....later the dogs were replaced by airplanes....now they run the trail just for fun....

We're at a U.S. Forest service campground near Whittier....there is an extensive trail system....Mrs. Phred can walk again now....I saw some big salmon coming into the Williwaw Creek to spawn....I think they were about 10 pound coho....

We will probably camp here for a day or two...yesterday was cool and rainy...the forest ferns and flowers are vibrantly colored....

Seward harbor....
