Once You're a Jet...

You're a jet all the way.
From your first cigarette,
To your last dying day.

Evora, Portugal

Sitting in the sun, drinking lunch. Old men argue politics in Portuguese and smoke cigarettes. The smoke drifts delightfully over our table...you never stop being an addict...from your first cigarette, to your last dying day....it's been nine months since I quit....

As we have discussed, a "Menir" is a neolithic standing stone. Even better is a "Cromeleque" which is a whole bunch of Neolithic standing stones...pictures of that later...

Mrs. Phred stands by a Menir.

This a a grove of cork trees near the standing stones 15 kilometers west of Evora. The bar has been stripped up to about ten feet. I guessed yew trees and she guessed cork...it is getting tiresome how often she is right....

These Neolithic standing stones are thought to be arranged in relation to the solstices and other astronomical events....

Our Pousada in Evora has a Roman ruin in it's front yard.

We walked several kilometers to the Evora aqueduct this morning. It was built in the 15th century and still has several miles of standing arches.

Evora is a college town. We see lots of students. The building above is a University building with students changing classes.

The dining room is right outside our bedroom window. We are in a tiny nun's cell.

This Pousada is in Estremoz about 30 kilometers from Evora.
