The Pousada do Freixo

Porto, Portugal

The palace is the largest Pousada in Portugal. This is our 4th night and in the morning we are heading for towns and places in remote Portugal that Frommer's has never heard of (or is that a dangling preposition?).....If that hurts your ears, make it "of which Frommer's has never heard".

The palace part of the Pousada was constructed in 1742 on the Duoro River by an Italian architect.

The other part was built as a cereal factory in 1850 by a rich merchant who had purchased the castle.

It's not clear to me why a cereal factory would need such a massive smokestack. This huge erection is just outside our window.

Anyway, this blog is for just for Anne who wanted more pictures of the Pousada.
