Hadrian's Wall and Durham Cathedral

Edinburgh to York

Mrs. Phred and I were here in York exactly 16 years ago on July 4th. I can pinpoint the date because we went to see Independence Day which was released in 1996.

Taylor wanted to see remnants of Hadrian's Wall. It was ordered built by the Emporer Hadrian. Construction began on the 76 mile line of wall and forts about 122 A.D and took about eight years to complete,

The wall was about six meters high and three meters wide. There are several theories to explain the reason for the wall's construction. These range from defense against the Scots to taxation, prevention of cattle rustling or simply to show the power of imperial Rome.
